Dear Eva...

...I'm not sure if you will see this post before we see you, but I want to deliver my apologies in advance. Actually, this post can extend to anyone who may ever come visit us in our little abode. It's probably a bit unseemly to air one's dirty laundry in public this way, but goodness knows I'm not known for my social graces. Ooooh, but hey, dirty laundry is actually one thing I don't need to apologize for...errrr, wait, there will be dirty laundry once the kiddos get up and get dressed. Crap. Oh well, let's move on, shall we?

*I apologize for my social awkwardness. I do love people, honest. I just get supremely anxious when meeting new people. I tend to talk inanely and too much at times and then struggle to get any words out whatsoever at others.

*I apologize for the state of our home. There are still boxes that have not been unpacked from our move. There are 300 home improvement projects that need done immediately and 3,000 more that need done eventually.

*I apologize for my children's behavior. We'll just leave it at that and let it cover for a wide variety of things you may witness or experience. :P

*I apologize that my meal-planning is non-existent for your visit, so we shall be winging it. Normally this is one place where I do well, but with Sandy and with trying desperately to finish up our school quarter three days early so it wouldn't interfere with our time together, well, I sort of fell down on the job.

*I apologize for Baker. He is looooong overdue for a bath. And he occasionally forgets his manners.

*I apologize for the mess. (Actually I'm hoping, probably in vain, that this apology is unnecessary. The house is clean and tidy now, but seeing as the munchkins will be alone here for many an hour before we arrive back home with you, no promises can be made as to what will await us as we walk back in the door. I will likely try the bribery route in an effort to make this apology moot, but who knows if it will work.)

Okay, I'd probably better stop now before I scare you, and everyone else, off completely. Can't wait to meet you!

What?! Don't apologize in advance, as a matter of fact I would not apologize or say i'm sorry for half of these! The other half.. ok, maybe :)

I really hope I get to visit you some day, and I can tell you in advance that NONE of these are things you should apologise for. I strongly suspect Eva will feel the same way :P

Blogger just ate my comment which was basically that your house may need some work but your home sounds just fine to me.

The funniest thing about reading this post is that I think most of us, certainly me, could copy it, changing only the names to protect the guilty, and it would work perfectly! Ha!

Debi, no one who is a friend cares about the presentation, they care about the most precious part of being with you and your family: the time that gets to be spent. Have fun, relax, and enjoy!

I look forward to a fun recap after the visit.

I agree with Carl. My big bubbly personality doesn't always carry out in person which makes me incredibly anxious to meet other people. I don't do small talk very well because I don't know how and I hate awkward silence. It's terrible. I've been glad to meet Andi in my very natural setting of book club (where I am my bubbly and loud self) but can't say the same for when I met Amanda and Jason. It was wonderful to see them but I felt like an anxious mess the whole time. I'm just hoping they didn't notice. ;)

I know that you'll have a wonderful time together and I bet that Eva wouldn't have even noticed these things...

I'm the same way. I don't feel that I do well with small talk at all and I'm always nervous about meeting people and not being a good conversationalist.

Oh, all, I'm the same exact way!

So awkward some days and some days bubbly and chatty and most of the time awkward. I'm glad we've all found each other, so when we meet each other in the real world we don't have to be worried about our awkward selves. Or the mess. <3

Ditto what Carl said! I would be so completely pleased to be with you and your wonderful family that I seriously doubt I would notice any of the other things. Plus, I seriously suspect it would just make me feel more at home. *hugs*

Have fun with Eva!!!
