Dewey's read-a-thon update five...

Managed to make it up until 1:00am, which might sound wimpy to most, but it's an accomplishment for me. Unfortunately I woke a bit before 5:00 feeling like crap, just wanting to go back to sleep. But after two hours of unsuccessfully trying, I decided to just get up and read for the last hour of Dewey's Read-a-Thon. And yeah, of course, now I wish I'd just gotten up when I woke up--could have put a much bigger dent in my final read-a-thon book.

So maybe I didn't get as much read as I would have liked, but I had a great time...and that matters so much more.

Unfortunately, today will not be nearly as fun--we've designated it a Family Clean-a-Thon day. Yeah, ugh. But at least it's for a good reason--we have a special guest coming to visit. Eva will be arriving late Tuesday afternoon and staying for a week! :D

Okay, guess I should be off to shower and begin making lists of everyone's tasks for the day.

So hope everyone who participated had as much fun as I did on our very special day to celebrate reading and to celebrate a wonderful woman who brought so many of us together and who did so much for this awesome community of readers and bloggers!!!

Dewey's Read-a-Thon update 4...

...and almost guaranteed to be the last. All those high hopes of staying up super duper late...yep, they're crashing down around me. I'm not giving up quite yet, but I suspect I won't last much longer. Especially considering the horizontal position I've switched to reading in.

But the good news is I did finish another book! Yep, Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm has moved to the finished pile. :D

I think I'm going to start Kill Alex Cross by James Patterson. His itty bitty chapters and the suspense-ish factor give me some hope for making it another hour or two. Or then again maybe not...

Loads of luck to all you diehard night owl readers! And thanks again to all the wonderful people who made this happen! It's been awesome, as usual! :D

And Dewey, you will NEVER be forgotten...and you will be FOREVER LOVED!!!

Dewey's Read-a-Thon update 3...

Well I fear the distractions just won't end. Let's put this bluntly, shall we? Max is exhausting. :P Ahhh, but Rich and Gray arrived home a while ago so they are now the target of some of his non-stop chatter and, "Let's do this," "Watch this," "Can we do this?" Sheesh--you'd think he was three-years-old or something. :P

Another distraction:

Max and I found a milk snake in the flower garden. He was hiding so this was the best look we got at him. So pretty. We also found a tree frog while we were moving logs out in the back yard from the tree we had to cut down earlier this week, but I didn't have my camera then.

Anyway, I have managed to read 10 tales from Philip Pullman's Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm. Determined to finish this book...and maybe maybe maybe another tonight. Yeah, like that maybe is ever going to happen.

Dewey's Read-a-Thon update 2...

Okay, *finally* finished my second book. It's really bordering on cheating saying that--as this was another really short book, and another that I was already halfway through. But hey--they're both now finished thanks to Dewey's Read-a-Thon, right? :)

Honestly, I'm not doing all that well with the reading here. Along with the distractions of family, I am allowing myself to be forever distracted with twitter and instagram and the like. Oh well--it's all still read-a-thoning.

And now off to make lunch with Max. A non-thrilling lunch of boxed mac and cheese. *sigh* But that's what I get for letting Max decide what we should get for read-a-thon lunch. :P

MORE HAPPY READING ALL!!!

Dewey's Read-a-Thon update 1...

I didn't really expect to post so soon, but well, I couldn't resist Book Spine Poetry Mini-Challenge at Scuffed slippers and wormy books. I totally suck at book spine poetry, and yet I also can't resist trying it now and then. :)

So here's what I came up with this morning:

after the first death
I hunt killers

the plague
wicked
germ
from hell

fade
drown
choke
deathnote
echo

how I live now
haunted

*****
In other news, I've finished my first book! Oh okay, not all that impressive as it was a short book and I was already halfway through it. But still! :)

HAPPY READING ALL!!!

by the time if finish typing this...

...Dewey's Read-a-Thon will be getting started!!!!! :D :D :D

I somehow didn't manage to get myself as organized as usual. Did get the all important food situation taken care of. But I never managed to do my "first lines" post so you all could help me weed down my reading pool. And I didn't do a gosh darn thing getting my blog ready. As in I usually have drafts ready to go where I can just add in my updated stats and write a few comments and they're ready to be published. But I've sort of decided to be much more laid back this time. Probably won't update too often, but we'll see. I debated just updating a single post this time (I know some people hate having their readers so clogged up on read-a-thon days). But I decided to just make each post a new post, because I for one have an easier time keeping up with my pals who are read-a-thoning if my reader tells me they've posted. But like I said, I'll try to keep my updates to a minimum.

I'm happy that I slept well last night--I often don't the night before Dewey's Read-a-Thon because I'm just too excited. :P Unfortunately I woke up earlier than I wanted and woke up with a nasty headache. Ibuprofen is helping, and I finally poured my first cup of coffee so that may help some more.

Anyway, I want to wish everyone participating in Dewey's Read-a-Thon a super fun and relaxing day!!! Thanks so much to Heather and Andi for all their hard work to make this happen!!! And to all of those who will be missing our dear friend Dewey, *huge hugs* DEWEY, YOU ARE SO LOVED!!!

Dewey's Read-a-thon update...the final one...

Since last post:

On the clock:

--Reading: 33 min.

--On computer (blogging, commenting/cheering, etc.): 52 min.

--Other (doggie duties, etc.): 8 min.

--Sleep, or at least trying to: 412 min.

Between the covers:

--Number of pages: 13 pages

--What I read: started The Passage by Justin Cronin but just couldn't stay focused so only got 6 pages read in 20 minutes; when I got back up, I decided to start Have His Carcase by Dorothy L. Sayers instead

Down the hatch:

--Food: nothing

--Drink: cup of half caf coffee

Cumulatively:

On the clock:

--Reading: 605 min.

--On computer (blogging, commenting/cheering, mini-challenges): 253 min.

--Other: 158 min.

--Sleep: 415 min.

Between the covers:

--Number of pages: 497 pages

--What I've read: finished The Hot Zone by Richard Preston, Pretty Dead by Francesca Lia Block, barely started The Passage by Justin Cronin (but decided to read it some other time), and barely started Have His Carcase by Dorothy L. Sayers

Down the hatch:

--Food: 2 cherry scones, 8 veggie corn dog bites, 2 snack size Baby Ruths, scrambled eggs, 2 pieces homemade toast, Rotel dip and chips

--Drink: 3 cups half caf coffee, 1 huge mug cinnamon spice tea, 3 glasses Coke, 1 huge glass water

Miscellaneous comments: This was just a wonderful read-a-thon experience. I don't know exactly why it felt right to try this again this time around, but it did. And I'm so glad I did! It felt like a celebration of the sort Dewey set out to make it again. And it was so wonderful to see her remembered and appreciated again by those who knew her. There will never be a day when I don't miss Dewey! And in that, I know I'm not alone. Love you, Dewey!

And many, many thanks to those who worked so hard to bring everyone the joy that is Dewey's Read-a-Thon. I hope you know how very appreciated you are!

--Drink: 2 cups half caf coffee, 1 huge mug cinnamon spice tea, 3 glasses Coke, 1 huge glass water

Miscellaneous comments: Well, the Rotel kept me awake for a while. But now I'm more tired than ever. And on top of that, Miss Banana wasn't feeling good, so she decided to go to bed. Bacon is sound asleep on my bed. Don't know where the kitties are. So I'm on my own in this effort to stay awake. It's not looking good...
