my happiness project

A.K.A. "my friends project"...that's what I've been calling it as I've been putting it together. And it's certainly apropo...as it's been put together by some of my dearest friends. But "the happiness project" is definitely hitting the nail on the head as well. To be frank, I've been having a shitty time lately. A combination of life, my body, and my brain---mostly my brain. I've been struggling so very hard to pull myself out of this funk, but it is a struggle. I'll get there, I know I will...I'm already on my way. And my wonderful, generous friends are so much of the reason why.

This mega-project came about thanks to inspiration from Chris. See, he often sent me emails telling me that I should really watch this movie or that TV show. It dawned on me one day that I should really be writing these all down into a list. But instead I took the lazy way out and asked him if he would make me a list. :P A list of 50 movies/TV shows that he thought I should watch before I die. Then a few weeks later, during one of those many nights where I was laying in bed unable to sleep, I had a brilliant idea. An idea that made me so happy I could hardly stop myself from waking Rich up to share it. :) I decided to ask a few of my favorite people for lists.

I sort of feel like I should explain *why* I asked each person for the particular list that I did, but I don't think I could do the explanations justice. The reasons are just so personal. Not personal as in secret. But personal as in they have to do with some of the things I admire most about her/him and am continually inspired by in her/him and...oh, just so many intangibles that I would fail to express adequately in words. The reasons I asked different people for the same list are as different as each of my beautiful friends are themselves.

Before I post the actual lists, I want to thank each of you who spent your precious time making these lists for me. I really have no earthly idea if any of you know how much it means to me. And even more, how much each of YOU mean to me. I can't imagine my life without each of you in it. And I look so forward to thinking of you as I work on my "assignments." :)

So here are the lists (what I have of them to this point...I'll continue to update). There is no meaning in the order of these lists, other than I put them in the order I received them.

35. The Gravesavers by Sheree Fitch (Also set in Nova Scotia.)
36. Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald (I remember when this was on Oprah. She is from Nova Scotia, so I was a bit excited!)

***Eva's List of Documentaries***

***Jean's List of Creative Endeavors***

***Renay's List of Multimedia Goodies***

***Carl's List of Fantasy/Horror/Sci-Fi Books***

Yep, that's a lot of stuff to read, watch, listen to, do, etc. However, this is not a stressful sort of to-do list, but it's antithesis. I am going to revel in completing each and every one of these items. So many of these items have me downright giddy with excitement. And sure, some of the things on these lists scare the living crap out of me. And yet somehow, in this context, I think I'm going to having facing up to those fears. I know I said it earlier, but I just have to say it again--THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH each and every one of you who agreed to participate in my project. I love you all!

Wait a minute! You want a typed list sent via email? I'm poised (as soon as I add the last couple items to the list) to make you a deck of creativity cards that you can deal to yourself or shuffle and cut to get a random card. Typing them into an email seems so, well, not creative, and I wanna have some fun, too! Can I do both? Send you the cards and a list? I really, really wanted to make it even more special and fun than it would be otherwise.

Jean,
LOL--I should have known you'd make it even more exciting! Of course, you can! I'll just post the list you email me, but I'll use the cards to pick out which one I'll do at any given time--does that work for you? And thank you once again!!!

Glad you're okay with that, Debi, because you were getting the cards no matter what. :-)

You have such wonderful friends! I thought about this a few years ago, about how having so many talented wonderful, beautiful people in my life means that there is so many books I want to read, things I want to make, skills I want to learn, movies I want to watch, that I'll never finish - but then, that's why friends are wonderful, because they're bigger than we coan old in our hearts.

I'm so bookmarking this list for reference!

Also, I'm sorry my list hasn't arrived in your inbox yet! I didn't realise you were planning on starting so soon! Is it ok if I send it in installments?

Heather's list and Ana's list both totally made me cry, lol. Isn't that silly that I can cry just from reading lists?! It just captures them so well and they're both beautiful. Heather's warmth just radiates from her list of things to do and Ana's music list just melts my heart because it shows what an amazing person she is. And I totally stole Pat's list from you :p I've added all of the movies she recommended to you onto my netflix!! I'm so excited to watch all of these movies that I'm sure are amazing :D

I can't tell you how happy these lists make me! I am all warm and fuzzy! Isn't it wonderful to have so many people love you! Of course, we can't help ourselves. :D

Chris just totally made my eyes water a bit. I'm stealing a few of these, okay a LOT of these, for myself as well. Love you Debi!
