I really shouldn't be doing this...

...but I CAN'T HELP MYSELF!!! I'm blaming both Trish and Chris...they just got me too dang excited to resist. And I tried. Really, truly tried.

Oops. What am I even babbling on about? Well, Trish's Standalong, of course!

Seriously, if you know me, you're probably wondering why I would even try to resist. Even if your favorite book is more than a thousand pages long, what's one more read, right? (I honestly can't say exactly how many times it's been already--best guess, I'd say 7.) Anyway, it's seems like a no brainer to want to read it again, when some of my dear friends are going to be reading, too, doesn't it? But see, here's the thing...what if people hate it?!! What if people start ripping apart the characters that I love so much?!! These people are like my family, my dear friends!!! Yes, I do know they're fictional. Honest, I've not gone that far off the deep end. But dammit, I still love them!

(And well, there's also the fact that I've never done a read-along because I'm pretty sure I'll be a massive failure at it. You know, the keeping to a schedule and actually posting about it and all that. Face it, I suck at that sort of thing.)

But I'm going for it! And I'm thinking about asking Rich if he wants to do it with me. It's been a while since we've done a read aloud together, just the two of us. And he loves the book too, so I don't have to worry on that front. :P

Ohkittydohkitty. Our charming hostess does have a pre-reading meme. And I guess I can at least manage to do that even if I flake out on other things down the line. (Said flaking out will not be because of lack of interest and desire, but because of unorganizedness and scatterbrainedness.)

1. What makes you want to read The Stand?

Sort of explained already, I guess. I just can't resist Trish's and Chris's enthusiasm!!! And duh, it's my favorite book. (I actually did write a post about it last time I read it back in 2008.)

2. Describe your preconceived notions of The Stand.

Ummmm...I guess this is where I just write N/A.

3. What was the last scary(ish) book you read or movie you saw?

Hmmmm. I sort of feel like I'm copying Chris's answer here, but I'm going to have to say Cody McFadyen's Smokey Barrett series. Those books aren't horror per se. More like psychological thrillers. But damn, do they scare the living crap out of me.

4. Which version of the book will you be reading from?

Will start with Complete and Uncut, in hardback. (Just searched through way too many boxes of unpacked books to find it.) But if fibro bitches too much, I might just buy it for my Nook.

5. What are you previous experiences with Stephen King?

I fell in love with his books late middle school, early high school. Yes, like 35 years ago, because I am old, old, old. :P Read everything as soon as it came out for many years, and then just stopped reading him. For no good reason that I know of. Have recently challenged myself to read and reread every book of his. Hey! This will count as my rereading of The Stand!!! (Yes, I did just realize this. :P )

6. Anything else you'd like to add (bonus points for being extra random).

I may or may not have a major crush on Larry.

Every time I hear Don't Fear the Reaper, Boogie Fever, or Don't Dream It's Over, I get a tremendous urge to read The Stand. (They're all used in the miniseries.)

Happy Crappy. Mayhap. M-O-O-N, that spells __________. All familiar phrases in our home thanks to The Stand.

All unfamiliar phrases here since I have never read ... not just The Stand but anything by Mr. King or his alterego, Mr. Bachman. Don't like scary things and while I realize not all of his works are scary, enough of them are that it's simpler just to avoid them all. My son's writing (which I do read when I can find it) is occasionally too scary for me, but he's my son, so it's different. But you go for it, and I hope the fibromonster doesn't interfere.

I have seen his movies but never read one of those horrifically huge books lol... but I am somewhat interested in his latest book, 11/22/63: A Novel , I even put it on my wish list! lol

I hope you and Rich go for it and have a grand time! There's nothing better than rereading a book you absolutely KNOW that you love!

I am terrible with read-alongs, but I have been considering joining in!

Yay! I saw on Chris's post where you were thinking about doing this, but still not sure. I'm so glad you're joining it. It will be fun to discuss with someone who is on reread 7 and you get to watch us all discover it for the first time. I'm POSITIVE we will love it. I did the same thing with King in the late 90s. I read most of what came out between 1997-2000 and then stopped. I'd like to read everything though.
